Title: The Small Beginnings, Big Idea: A Guide to Excelling

Success cannot be achieved in one day, as most of us want to succeed in life without wasting time. Though every great thing begins small, most organizations start small, from an idea in the mind of an individual or a group of individuals.

The Bible specifically instructs that growth is to be done beginning from small. Now if we take an example of a story, the story of Abraham, then we will have a better understanding.

# 1. Abraham’s Step of Faith

In Genesis 13:14-15, God said to Abraham to get up and look around. He saw a vast land, an environment with the promise of God. But notice: The beginning of Abraham’s journey can be summarized in one step. It didn’t start big. He did not have to get up, stand, and take what God, in His word, had given him.

> “Lift up now your eyes and look… all that you see, I will give to you.” (Genesis 13:14)

Abraham had a vision. He saw the promise. However, to receive it he had to begin with the basics, and that is to move from one step to the other.

# 2. Be Willing to Start Small

As in anything, so in ministry, in business & life, what is needed is a process, and that too is a gradual process. That means big visions are a virtue that involves lots of waiting and a great deal of sustained effort. For example, I started my evangelism ministry in a tiny church.

At the lowest entry point, I became a technical officer for message recording using a cassette player. As deputy chief secretary, I was finding it challenging to navigate: There was no public address system. However, this small task was the trigger to much bigger responsibilities.

# 3. An Overview of How Small Beginnings Work

These are the thoughts that come to one’s mind when he or she tries to realize that, indeed, it is good to grow, but it is not necessary to start with something big and brilliant from the start, saying, “I reject the silly things.” Zechariah 4: The scripture from chapter 10 reads thus:

Do not despise the day of small beginnings. Small things build character. They teach us discipline, and they make us humble. If we are unworthy to be over little, God will not permit us to be over much.

# 4. Examples from Scripture

Abraham: He decided to walk by faith and took the first step towards it.

David was a great sheep herder before he was even a great king.

Jesus: Although his work focused on remaking and changing lives, Jesus began His ministry with just a few disciples.

Conclusion: Think Big, Start Small

Nothing good comes from something small. We must start where we are, just like David, Abraham, and others whom the word starts thus. The best time for doing a certain thing is never unless it is found that the best method of doing that certain thing is to do it immediately.

Begin wherever you can today, as little as it might appear to you. God will lead your way, help you, and crown your endeavors.

**This means, however, starting small, but we need to be thinking big.
