Some of the top gospel celebrities attend the Rockford Soar Awards

The historic stage at the Coronado Performing Arts Center will once again host the Soar Radio gospel music awards on March 6, featuring some of the genre’s biggest superstars and up-and-coming performers.

The Soar Awards concert, which originated in Rockford, is a celebration of musical talent, spirituality, and diversity rather than any one faith, according to organizers Justin and Rebecca Francis.

Justin Francis declared, “We are absolutely looking forward to being back at the Coronado. “We’re heading back to downtown. The Embassy Suites and a lot more are available here. There is nowhere I would rather be than here, where we are overjoyed to be. It was built for this.”

The event was hosted in Forest City Church the year before, so its relocation to the bigger downtown venue with a seating capacity of around 2,200 is a testament to how well-attended it is, according to Francis.

Todd Dulaney and Isabel Davis, two Grammy-winning recording artists, will co-host the sixth annual show. Donald Lawrence, a 15-time nominee for a Grammy Award, will get the Legend Award; Holly Carter will receive the Luminary Award; popular singer Jekalyn Carr will receive the Industry Impact Award; and singer-actress Kierra Sheard will receive the Legend Award.

The Clark Sisters, KeKe Wyatt, Leandria Johnson, and others will perform during the night.

It will be recorded for a broadcast of the event and is regarded as the second-largest awards ceremony for Gospel music.

Mayor Tom McNamara expressed his pride in the event’s continued presence in Rockford. He stated that $215,000 in economic activity is anticipated for the evening as people come to the downtown for the entertainment and stay for food and shopping.

The Soar Awards, according to McNamara, are a fantastic celebration of inspiration and gospel music. “I’m not sure if our community realizes the significance of and our great fortune in having the Soar Awards right here in Rockford.”
