Thank God for salvation. Fans React to Mercy Chinwo’s Throwback Cover of Fela’s Zombie

The Nigerian music industry has many names, but one thing is certain: it is always buzzing. Music is everywhere in Nigeria, from old to new, gospel to secular, live performances to videos. Mercy Chinwo is one of many musicians who have recently gained popularity. She made headlines after a video of her performing the famous Fela Kuti hit song ‘Zombie’ on the stage of Nigerian Idol resurfaced.

Mercy Chinwo made a grand entrance onto the stage after being carried out of a box. Her energetic performance mesmerized and captivated both the audience and the judges; she had the audience captivated throughout her performance. Even Femi Kuti, Fela’s eldest son and one of the judges, was overjoyed.

The video quickly went viral on social media, eliciting numerous reactions from users, many of whom were surprised to learn that Mercy Chinwo was a contestant on Nigerian Idol and that she sang a secular song.
