The Power of Prayer: From Historical accounts and the Sacred Writings

power of prayer

Prayer is one of the oldest weapons in the possession of the believer. Scriptures prove to us that repentant prayer can produce the impossible.

The Power of Prayer: From Historical Accounts and the Sacred Writings

The prophet Elijah prayed earnestly as a man, and God revealed Himself to him by ‘opening the heavens.’ His prayers were what can be described as lip service; he was not murmuring before God as a mere verbal expression of entreaty but was imploring God in a manner of desperation.

1. Prayer Transforms Lives

Perhaps a real-life example would suffice: David Brainerd, a missionary to India, is a clear example. Since he could not speak the language he relied on prayer.

He devoted His time to prayer and worship at any place, including the desert, and relying on the Lord. Among many, his prayers helped turn numerous people to the faith, even if there were barriers.

2. Prayers Open Doors

There are many men of God known to roam this world who devoted their lives to prayer. Moravian brothers prayed for 24 hours for over 100 years and provided a spark to walk through world revivals.

Depending on the degree of fervor for God, John Wesley was of the opinion that there could be no day without hours of prayer. Prayer was his foundation.

3. Prayer Defeats the Enemy

Therefore, the author maintains that the power of prayer is witnessed when the enemy disappears. The Lord answered prayer in India as Brainerd prayed, and this serpent was sent from him. However as noted of him, his prayers were so effective that even nature could not resist them.

– This man of prayer – Father Nash—had commissioned for Charles Finney’s meetings as a result 100 000 souls were said to have been converted through the revival.

4. Prayer Changes Nations

Scotland is proud of such religious leaders as the reformer John Knox, who once prayed fervently, “Give me Scotland or I die.” In his prayers, he was able to alter the direction of Scotland’s future.

The soul of this man from Knox is that prayer can supply all our needs. He never demanded money, but he prayed right, and God supplied his orphanage’s needs.

Conclusion

Prayer can therefore not be seen as a passive process; prayer is in fact a force that writes history. As these men and women of faith were blessed to see God answer prayers, we also shall be blessed to see an answer to our prayers if we approach Him with such a prayer. Ananias and Sapphira died instantly and were buried on that same day.

They were both of one accord, prayed alike, and did not hide any information concerning the resurfacing of the grandmother. The Lord Jesus answered for them by saying that by their deed they have lied. Let’s at this very moment pledge ourselves to be fervent in prayers and see what will happen to us and to the world we live in.
